Road to Lollapalooza Chile 2023: Billie Eilish, much more than “Bad Guy”

A new edition of Lollapalooza Chile is fast approaching, the mega festival is preparing three days of music and entertainment that will take place in Cerrillos Bicentennial Park the second week of March.
Less and less to live three days full of music, Chile Lollapalooza will return with its eleventh version, the next March 17, 18 and 19 at the Cerrillos Bicentennial Park. The mega festival headed by great exponents of international music, some of them will perform for the first time in our country, will once again paralyze the city for an entire weekend.
Charged with international pop music and the great exponents of rap, on Friday, March 17, the first day, is headed by the world artist, Billy eilish and the rapper, lil nas x, among other great numbers and national artists who will give their best on stage. But let’s stop at Billie Eilish, how did the 21-year-old artist come to headline the Lollapalooza bill?
Since 2015, Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connellbetter known simply as, Billie Elish, is giving to talk. Under the eaves of his brother, Finneas O’Connell, who has produced and co-written a large part of her songs, the artist from an early age climbed precipitously into mainstream music, delivering interesting compositions that go from electro pop, EMD, pop ballads, to more experimental sounds. «ocean eyes“, her first song, which was uploaded to Soundcloud, quickly went viral, thus paving the way for the young artist. After this early success, in 2017 came her first EP, «Don’t Smile At Me«, an album that served as the basis to continue growing and seeking his musical identity. With this work, Eilish began to attract attention immediately, but not only for her music, but for her attitude, way of dressing, lyrics, among other things. It was not difficult for the artist to reach an adolescent audience, her disruptive way, far from the Disney artist model, fit in with the new generations. The artist has not hidden her fight against depression and the insecurity that she has felt with her body, causing people to talk and generating empathy in a youth that is increasingly open to discussing taboo topics.
Bad Guy’s success
The blow to world fame came with a song that represents and would mark the artist, but at the same time it does not. «Bad Guy«, part of his second album, «When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?» of 2019, it went around the world quickly. The dark and catchy sound of her, added to the rebellious attitude of her interpreter, enchanted the world. This album gives the artist a darker aesthetic, her lyrics deal with deeper themes and move away from the preteen canon. Here Billie Eilish marks her image: colored hair, extremely wide clothes, her lost gaze and her soft voice that does not escape high tones. With “Bad Guy” the North American reached the Billboard Hot 100 and became known worldwide. The song has been used in dozens of viral videos, even being used for batches of commercials for commercial stores.
But Billie Eilish and her album «When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?» is much more than an extremely commercial pop song. In fact, “Bad Guy” feels like a trick song on the record, drawing in with its catchy sound, busting bass, and vocal melody, but it’s the doorway to a much quieter album, songs like “Xanny«, They immediately show that there is a search for pop experimentation, yes, always maintaining that dark vibe. Other songs like «All The Good Girls Go To Hell” Y “My Strange Addiction«, They give the feeling that it is a more complete, complex and interesting album.
Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles
In 2021, the North American makes a 180-degree turn and releases her second studio album, «Happier Than Ever«, an album that leaves behind the «darkness» of «When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?» and approaches pastel colors, referencing the aesthetics of the 50s. In this work the growth is noticeable and along with this the musical maturity of Billie, the North American no longer needs another «Bad Guy», she is already at the top and she can take her search to other places. Here the brand “Billie Eilish” is still present, catchy pop songs along with a voice that has no intention of reaching high pitches, well-crafted video clips and deep, well-written lyrics.
With the promotion of this record, came the live performance for Disney Plus, «Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles«. A live concert of just over an hour in which the artist reviews her new album, but with the focus of offering “a Billie Eilish concert experience«. And it is that the singer has focused on making her live performances powerful, close and epic, part of which she demonstrates in the presentation of the 64th Grammys ceremony, in which she along with her brother finneasthey recreated part of the video clip for the song “Happier Than Ever” with a luxurious staging.
multi-awarded
At her young age, Eilish already has an Oscar on her trophy shelf. Award that she won together with her brother at the 2022 Oscars ceremony in the category «Best Original Song” for “No Time To Die«. In addition, she is a multi-award-winning Grammys, being her disco «When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?“, the most awarded album in the history of the Grammys, along with”twenty-one» from Adele. She was also crowned the first female artist to win four overall categories on the same night, for Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist.
Undoubtedly, Billie Elish is more than a viral pop song, much more than a rebellious teenager image and more than a commercial artist. She is an extremely talented singer who, at 21 years old, already has the world in her hands and all she has to do is keep growing. Part of all this is what we will be able to appreciate on the night of March 17, when the American will make Bicentennial Park vibrate in a new version of Lollapalooza Chile 2023.
