Ruby, the “legend”, returns to the bench in Almeria | UD Almeria

Joan Francesc Ferrer Sicily is the new coach of Union Deportiva Almeria and thus begins his second phase at the head of the Almeria bench after a first cycle marked by outstanding sporting successes. Club CEO Mohamed El Assi described Rubi as an “Almerian legend” after winning the first ever Second Division title in the 21/22 season, as well as his subsequent stint in the First Division at the helm of the Red and White entities.

So, the “legend” returns to once again lead an ambitious and exciting project, the goal of which is to fight for the conquest of the highest category. The club and coach agreed on a contract for the next three seasons and a termination clause of €10 million.

A very pronounced methodology that goes beyond the playing field is part of Ruby’s sporting DNA. In addition to a balanced style of play on the field, where order coexists with community, the new Rojiblanco coach instills in his players certain principles and behaviors that increase the strength of the group as a differentiating element. In other words, Ruby strongly believes in the word “team” and improves it day by day; before, during and after training.

He arrived in the red and white team in the final stretch of the 20/21 season – in the 37th round – where he was defeated in only one game and ended up in the play-offs for promotion to the First Division. The following year, he not only achieved the desired promotion to the first division, but also wrote one of the golden lines in the history of Union Deportiva Almeria, lifting the Cup, which recognized him as champion of the second division; This is the first and only title in the history of the red and white. Already in the 22/23 season, his contractual relationship ended, having fulfilled the established goal – consistency – and he said an emotional goodbye to fans, leaders and the city.

Football brings paths together again. The last bench Ruby sat on would be the same one he would occupy again after the season without coaching any other team despite the numerous and important choices he had to do so. Almeria and Ruby join forces again, forming a tandem as victorious as the previous one. Now it’s official: Season 24/25 has begun.
