A series of Russian drone strikes targeted the city of Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine on Saturday, killing at least seven people, including three children, according to the region’s governor, Oleg Sinegoubov.
According to their statements on the Telegram social network, among the seven dead is a whole family of five people: two adults and three children of seven, four years old and a baby of about six months.
“The man’s body was found in the hallway of the house, while the mother and children were trying to escape in the bathroom,” he said. A retired couple died in another house.
According to Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov, the fire was caused by a fuel leak that spread to nearby houses, forcing at least 50 people to evacuate, who explained the situation this way:
Enemy Shaheds (Iranian-made drones) attacked a gas station, spreading burning fuel and burning 14 private houses.
Kharkiv regional prosecutor Oleksandr Filachkov said, “Three drones attacked the Nemishlyansky district of Kharkiv. Sensitive infrastructure was destroyed.”
The attack follows a series of nighttime attacks in Kharkiv and a city east of the regional capital.
