Sanchez meets with Renault CEO to continue driving demand for electric vehicles
Chairman of the Government, Pedro Sanchezheld a meeting this Thursday with the President of the European Automobile Manufacturers Association and the CEO of Renault, Luca de Meo, continue to stimulate demand for electric vehicles and analyze the problems of the automotive sector in Spain and Europe.
The General Director addressed automotive industry problems in areas such as decarbonization, digitalization, regulation or training to compete in the global market, in a meeting also attended by the Minister of Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu; Director of the Office of Economic Affairs and G-20 Manuel de la Rocha and President of the Spanish Association of Automobile and Truck Manufacturers (Anfac) and CEO of Renault Spain Josep Maria Recasens.

The Prime Minister emphasizedaccording to Moncloa’s statementwork carried out by the Executive since 2018 to promote the transformation of the automotive industry in Spain and lead the green revolution. In this sense, Sanchez noted the relevance of the government’s plans to stimulate demand for electric vehicles.
In turn, the CEO of the Renault group presented to the Prime Minister measures to combat problem of technological transition sectors in Spain and Europe and increase competitiveness. These include initiatives already underway such as promoting small European cars, revolutionizing last-mile delivery and boosting the potential of hydrogen, “an area in which Spain is working intensively,” the government said in a statement. Currently, more than half a thousand projects related to green hydrogen have been identified.

“The Executive makes a firm commitment to placing Spain at the forefront of Europe in the field of sustainable mobility through public-private cooperation in which PERTH Recovery Plan for Electric and Connected Vehicles,” they noted and added that “this strategic project involves public investment of more than 5 billion euros.”
The executive branch plans to launch before the end of the year fourth callallocated 1,250 million euros (250 million euros in grants and 1,000 million euros in loans) to continue promoting the electrification of the automotive industry. Likewise, the government has mobilized more than €1,500 million in helpline calls announced to date for the purchase of electric vehicles and the installation of charging stations under the Moves plan.
