Spain National Team | Luis de la Fuente, Title Winner
Luis is talking about titles because, since joining the senior team after the Qatar World Cup, he has won everything the Spanish team has ever wanted. Coach Haro has won his second trophy in less than two years and already has the Nations League and European Cup double under his belt. What’s more, he now has the opportunity to become the first coach to achieve the treble in three years, as Spain will play the Copa America champions in the Finalisima next summer.
The Spanish coach won the European Cup final, making his team win every game. He also won the final. Moreover, De la Fuente lost only one official match out of the 20 he coached as an absolute coach, and all the rest were victories. Two more failures were in friendly matches (a loss to Colombia and a draw with Brazil).
De la Fuente started his career as a strong coach. He had just lost his second game, but his players had given him his first title in the Netherlands: the Nations League. Luis Enrique had led Spain to the Final Four, and the Riojana coach had finished the job by beating Italy (2-1) in the semi-finals and Croatia in the final, which was decided on penalties (0-0/5-4).
Triple Crown
De la Fuente also completed his continental treble with the win over England. He was previously the European Under-19 Champion (2015) and the Under-21 Champion (2019). Both teams also included Unai Simon and Mikel Merino, who can boast a triple crown.
As for the 2015 UEFA European Under-19 Championship, Spain beat Russia 2-0 in the final, with a team that included Rodri. As for the UEFA European Under-21 Championship, Fabian Ruiz and Dani Olmo scored in the final against Germany (2-1) on June 30, 2019. Fabian, now a key player in De la Fuente’s team, was voted the most valuable player.
De la Fuente also boasts an Olympic silver medal and a Mediterranean Games title with the U-18 team.
