The Andalusian School of Public Health, the UGR and Roche Farma create the Chair of Medicine based on the 5Ps

The presentation ceremony of the Chair of Medicine based on the 5Ps, held at the headquarters of the Andalusian School of Public Health (EASP), was attended by the General Secretary of Public Health and R&D of the Ministry of Health and Consumption, Isaac Túnez; the rector of the University of Granada, Pilar Aranda; the managing director of the Andalusian School of Public Health, Blanca Fernández-Capel; the person in charge of Personalized Medicine at Roche Farma Spain, Teresa Ramos, and the directors of the Chair, María José Sánchez and María José Serrano, among others.
In his speech, the General Secretary for Public Health and R+D+i, Dr. Túnez, highlighted “the determined commitment of the Ministry of Health and Consumption to precision medicine, with a Plan implemented to prevent, diagnose and treat diseases in a personalized way, placing the patient at the center of excellent health care”.
The rector of the UGR has highlighted the importance of research in biomedicine to achieve personalized medicine. “The study of each pathology and the response of each person to treatments and pathologies is crucial, and to achieve this, public-private collaboration is essential,” she pointed out.
The person in charge of Personalized Medicine at Roche Farma, Teresa Ramos, highlighted that “initiatives such as this Chair, to which are added others such as the Alliances in precision oncology and neurosciences, place Andalusia in the leading group in the development of medicine customized in Spain”.
The managing director of the EASP has indicated that the EASP “works for inter-institutional collaboration as a key to advancing in the generation of knowledge, and within this framework this third Chair that is presented today arises”.
The directors of the Chair have highlighted that “disciplines such as genomics, digital health, and biomedical data management are essential to successfully face the challenge of health systems in the transformation required by personalized, precision, preventive medicine, participatory and population”. “From the Chair that we direct, we want to promote training and research in these matters to help the Health System achieve excellent health care,” they added.
Dr. Enrique de Álava, coordinator of the Personalized and Precision Medicine Plan of the Andalusian Public Health System, was in charge of giving the welcome conference, which was on ‘Value-based medicine: health care for the 5Ps’, which was preceded by the presentation of the person in charge of Personalized Medicine at Roche Farma Spain, Teresa Ramos, on the ‘Importance of public/private collaboration in Personalized Medicine’.
The Chair is a joint initiative of the Andalusian School of Public Health, the University of Granada and Roche Farma Spain.
Objectives and Activity Plan
The objective of the Chair is to develop scientific activities and specific projects that promote training, research, dissemination and transfer of knowledge in the field of 5P Medicine.
The activity plan of the Chair to achieve this objective is developed around training, research and scientific dissemination.
Directors with a strong research profile
Dr. Maria José Sánchez Pérez is a professor at the EASP and scientific director of the Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada (ibs.Granada). She is a member of the advisory committee of the Andalusian Personalized and Precision Medicine Strategy and coordinator of its training group. She is a member of the Executive and Operational Committee of the IMPaCT Predictive Medicine Program of the Carlos III Health Institute.
Dr. Maria José Serrano is a Nicolás Monardes researcher at the Radiation Oncology Service of the Virgen de las Nieves University Hospital in Granada and a Researcher at ibs.Granada and Genyo. She is a member of the advisory committee of the Andalusian Personalized and Precision Medicine Strategy and coordinator of its research group.
