The applicant and many unknowns
The Football Federation (RFEF) is immersed in an electoral process that must decide What will be its course in the new Olympic cycle until 2028? After that, there should be a new Assembly (to be decided on November 25) and a new President (December 16), who will take over the position that has been vacant since Pedro Rocha saw his disqualification confirmed last September. An election in which there are currently more doubts than certainties.
What is known is that Juanma Morales intends to become a candidate for the post of head of the RFEF. This Thursday he presented in detail a project with 200 bars and names like David Silva, Virginia Torrecilla, Amanda Sampedro… I moved from business to the Football Federation in the hope of bringing about change in an organization that had recently suffered greatly in terms of image, but with excellent sporting results.
To pursue this and be considered an official candidate, you need at least 15% Assembly support. That is, among the new assembly members elected on November 25, there are 21 supporters. Although the reality is that a significant part of the candidates for this body, in particular 66 people, already know that they will be selected since they are the only candidates. All levels of football are represented in this Assembly: from professional players (names such as Carvajal, Patri Guijarro, Unai Simon…), coaches, referees, non-professional players, futsal and even beach soccer.
It is they who will choose among the candidates for the post of the next RFEF president on December 16. For now, if he remains safe from trouble, something that would seem to have dispelled the warnings of FIFA and UEFA, but whose threat he continues to plan for. The latter, written by Francisco Javier Gonzalez Calvo, who once aspired to lead the federation, who had already challenged these elections in the TAD and, after being rejected, appealed to the High Court of Madrid.
But if everything continues as usual, then in the elections, except for the name of Morales, it is still unknown who will run for election, although in this matter everything revolves around the last president, Pedro Rocha. The Extremadura man could consider running again if he were given precautionary measures until a final decision on his appealed disqualification is made.which he received for abuses at the head of the Management Company after the departure of Luis Rubiales. The RFEF did not understand that the dismissal of general secretary Andreu Camps, which was supported by the CSD or even the players of the women’s national team, was the reason for his suspension. But the truth is that TAD did not give him these precautions when the elections were not yet called, but the current situation has reopened hopes that he can become President again.
This possibility determines whether the territories will choose another “consensus” candidate. Territorial presidents such as Rafael Luzan (Galicia) or Pablo Lozano (Andalusia). They seem to have a strong reputation as an alternative to Extremadura. Even the current Secretary General Alvaro de Miguel would also fit into the new line that the RFEF is trying to implement in new times, far removed from the belligerence of the Rubiales era.
But Rocha’s figure can also influence candidates who come from outside. Gerardo González Otero, who became secretary general of the RFEF and even ran against Villar in the 2002 elections, may run… as long as Rocha does not take part in the elections. All these unknowns should be clarified in the near future. It depends on this that the RFEF finally finds a period of institutional peace… that will best serve to manage the era of sporting prosperity it is experiencing.
