The Boston Celtics beat the Dallas Mavericks in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

(CNN) — The Boston Celtics beat the Dallas Mavericks 107-89 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

The first half was all about the Celtics, led by center Kristaps Porzingis, who scored 18 points. The 28-year-old missed Boston’s final 10 playoff games after spraining his left calf in Game 4 of the team’s first-round series against the Miami Heat.

The Mavericks trailed by 29 points at halftime but cut the deficit to single digits in the second half thanks to Luka Doncic. The Slovenian star gave it his all, scoring 10 points in the third quarter.

However, the Boston Celtics regained control and went on an 8–0 run, pushing their lead back into double digits, and continued to hold off the Mavericks for the rest of the game.

Celtics forward Jaylen Brown led the team with 22 points, while Porzingis finished with 20 points and six rebounds in 21 minutes played. Doncic scored 30 points.

Boston’s star forward Jayson Tatum, who scored 16 points in the win, wasn’t thrilled with his performance but credited the team for the win.

“I had too many turnovers,” Tatum told ABC after the game. “I need to improve a lot, but we got the job done today. Get some rest, watch some film and see what we can do better in Game 2.”

Before the game, Basketball Hall of Famer Bill Walton was honored with a moment of silence at TD Garden. Walton, who played on the 1986 NBA title-winning Celtics team, died at age 71 after a long battle with cancer last month.

Members of Walton’s family and Celtics players wore black T-shirts with the word “Walton” on them.

Game two is scheduled for this Sunday in Boston at 8:00 pm Miami time.
