The draw for the Leagues Cup is suspended due to the death of a footballer

The tournament organized by Liga MX and MLS will launch a new format this year in which all the participants of both competitions will take part.
The Leagues Cup 2023 draw was scheduled for this Thursday, January 19, but the organizers decided to postpone it due to the unfortunate death of Anton Walkes, a Charlotte FC footballer. The organization stated that a new date will be announced in the coming days for the draw.
This will be the first binational tournament in which all teams from Liga MX and MLS will participate. With the aim of promoting competitiveness between the two tournaments, the organizations of both countries have decided to unify all the members of Mexican and North American football in the same competition.
Cruz Azul will also be part of the competition and is waiting for a rival in a semester in which it will not participate in the Concachampions. Hence, this tournament has greater importance for the interests of those led by Raúl Gutiérrez to fight again for the scepter in the MX League itself.
On the other hand, and according to local sources, Anton Walkes died early Thursday morning in a maritime accident. The 25-year-old English defender came to the United States from his country four years ago and was one of the mainstays of Charlotte FC in MLS.
