“The priority of the CNMV is to clarify the accounts of Grifols”
“Shareholders are the ones who must decide whether directors are paid enough.”
The National Securities Market Commission (CNMV), which oversees the country’s major companies, is no stranger to controversy over the comparison of the salaries of senior managers and employees of Ibex companies.
Rodrigo Buenaventura, the organization’s president, believes that while “the question of adequate remuneration is very subjective”, he believes that “in Spanish listed companies there is a very consolidated system of transparency regarding the remuneration of directors and executives.”
The CNMV’s work in this aspect is to disseminate information and transparency through detailed reports with comparative data between companies. “There the decision of the ultimate owners of the companies, who are the shareholders, is what ensures that the remuneration will always be appropriate. At CNMV, we have always emphasized that remuneration data is accurate and we have implemented supervisory measures. to make sure they are correct.
“Personally, some footballers’ salaries attract more attention than some executives’, but that must be because I’m not a big football fan,” he jokes.
