The Yankees sign Marcus Stroman for $37 million and protect their rotation through 2024.
The New York Yankees bolstered their starting rotation Thursday by agreeing to terms with pitcher Marcus Stroman for two years and $37 million, pending the completion of negotiations with National League Cy Young winner Blake Snell.
The deal, which includes performance bonuses for the 2026 campaign (he could earn up to $55 million if he works 140 innings in 2025), will become official after a physical.

Stroman left a 10-9 record with a 3.95 ERA, 119 strikeouts and 52 strikeouts in 136.2 innings of work into the 2023 season after being named to the All-Star Game by the National League team. He also added a shutout in the fourth complete game of his career.
Talks between both sides intensified this week following an offer from the former Chicago Cubs starter, who posted a photo on social media with his father wearing a Yankees jersey. Remember, Stroman is a Long Island native and already familiar with the American League East from his time with the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Gold Glove-winning right-hander had the third-highest groundball percentage among starters, with at least 130 innings pitched in the majors, according to FanGraphs, so he could be ideally suited to pitch at Yankee Stadium.
