they give you a possible explanation
Popular TikTok user @peldanyos, who has over two million followers, sparked hundreds of comments after focusing on a product that he found in Mercadona and in which, a priori, he does not find much meaning.
“From the creators of the Mercadona Laminated Egg comes… crushed walnuts. What about chopped walnuts? We have natural walnut, regular walnut and crushed walnut. Why do we need so many nuts? he asks.
“Then if cardboard straws are eco-friendly, recycle them and they made plastic wrappers for different nut formats when the nut already has a shell. By clearing it I understand because it solves a lot of things for you, but “Can someone explain to me about chopped walnuts?” he insists.
“I understand they are sold shelled because I’ve only seen them cracked with this utensil by my grandfather,” he says, before eating the cracked nut and then tasting one of the already cracked ones: “It tastes worse.” than the other, the other seemed fresher to me, It’s a little dated, but it’s still good.”
When trying the crushed ones, the user notes that they “taste very similar to the previous ones, but are definitely crushed.” “I don’t understand the need to consume this,” repeat.
As seen on the Mercadona website, chopped walnuts are slightly cheaper (9 euros per kilogram) than those that are already peeled (10 euros per kilogram). In the comments, several users point out a possible explanation for this price difference and the existence of this product itself.
“Essentially, they want to sell the nuts that are cracked at the plant rather than throw them away.”, notes the user. Another, in the same sense: “I work in the hospitality industry. The cut ones are cheaper, they’re leftovers, they’re used for salads.”
And one more thing: “I sell crumbled walnuts in the store, but crushed ones are sold cheaper, these are the ones that broke when the nuts were peeled, “It’s to avoid waste.”
