This is the new Wi-Fi 7 router from Digi.
Last week, Digi announced that it would become the first fiber operator to offer a Wi-Fi 7 router to its customers. The truth is that the announcement left us wanting to know more. Although today we were able to see with our own eyes the make, model and appearance of this new router. And besides, it left a very pleasant taste in our mouth.
Wi-Fi 7 offers a lot of benefits over all the routers we’ve seen so far with Wi-Fi 6. For example, it offers much faster connection speeds while significantly reducing connection latency. This makes it finally possible to stream games over a wireless connection. Another advantage of this type of connection is that it greatly improves the coverage area, so we will have far fewer problems at home. The maximum number of simultaneously connected devices also increases, which is very important for the Internet of Things.
Overall, better speed and connection quality that all compatible devices can enjoy. And those without compatibility will be able to continue using the latest version of Wi-Fi they support, as the protocol is completely backwards compatible.
We already knew that the exact model was ZTE F8748Q. So what will this new router be like? Big small? What features will it have? Let’s see it.
New Digi router in your hands
Thanks to Mobile World Content, we were able to see and touch this new router. The first thing that caught our attention was that It is manufactured by ZTE., one of the most famous manufacturers of routers and ONTs, which most often works with telecom operators. What also caught our attention was the fact that both Digi and ZTE have opted for a vertical design, which will help save space as it will look like a (large) book.
Of course, as we can see, it is not designed to be placed horizontally like other routers. The main color of this router is white, and although it is made of plastic (like all of them), it has a polished and shiny finish, very elegant.
At the back we find some of its main features. The first thing that catches your eye is that we can connect two phones to this router to make and receive calls. Also has 10 Gigabit Ethernet connectionallowing this router to be ready for the 10Gbps network it offers in Pro mode. In addition, we have 4 Gigabit Ethernet ports, a USB port, a power outlet, and an on/off button.
On the front panel we have an ECO button that will allow us to activate the low consumption mode on the router (or at least that’s what logic tells us).
We also have two other buttons related to WPS and Wi-Fi.
As we can see, although it is quite tall, it is also quite narrow, so we can place it on any shelf without any problems. In addition, the ventilation is located at the top, so it is less likely to become clogged and cause problems.
Who is this router for?
Unfortunately (though not surprisingly), this top-end router won’t be available to everyone. At least for now. Digi has confirmed that it will only offer fiber optic speeds of up to 10Gbps to PRO-DIGI contract customers.
And although we don’t know when it will be available, for starters it will be distributed shortly to the first 1000 customers throughout Spain who subscribe to this service.
