Tour of Colombia 2024: route, dates, stages and participating cyclists
The teams competing in this year’s Tour of Colombia 2.1 were presented to the public ahead of the start of the race, which has become an important part of the world cycling calendar since 2018. The competition features Colombian sports stars such as Rigoberto Uran, Egan Bernal and Nairo Quintana, who were with their teams at the Plaza de Bolívar in Tunja for the first events of the sporting event. The tour will take place from 6 to 11 February 2024 and will take place in the departments of Boyaca and Cundinamarca, in the center of the country, ending in Bogota.
Participating athletes
Nairo Quintana returns to high-performance racing as the leader of the Movistar team, which also includes Colombians Ivan Ramiro Sosa and Fernando Gaviria. Quintana is facing a difficult year: he was sanctioned after testing positive for tramadol use at the 2022 Tour de France and was left without a team until he was re-signed by Movistar, to which he belonged from 2012 to 2019. “I’m glad to be back home. It’s been a difficult year. Days without sleep, many days of enormous sacrifice, get on the bike and try to go forward, rain or shine. But it was worth it. “I’m not going to miss this opportunity,” the cyclist said when his signing was announced.
Among the teams present, the Astana-Kazakhstan team and EF Education–Easy Post stand out, which will take part in the course, which includes flat, mid- and high-mountain days. Santiago Umba, Harold Tejada, Rigoberto Uran and Esteban Chavez are some of the national cyclists included in these squads. In addition, the presence of Egan Bernal, Brandon Rivera, Jonathan Restrepo, German Dario Gomez, Jesus David Pena and Juan Diego Alba was announced.
