North American studio Toys for Bob (Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon) took an unexpected step and announced that it was becoming an independent studio.
As they explain on their website: “We believe now is the time to take our studio and our future games to the next level. This opportunity allows us to return to our roots as a small studio.”
They acknowledge that “our friends at Activision and Microsoft understand our new direction very well, and we are confident that we will continue to work together as part of our future.”
In fact, while Toys for Bob has become independent from the Redmond company, it is “exploring a possible partnership between our new studio and Microsoft. Although we are still in the early stages of development of our new game and are far from making any announcements, the team is excited to create new stories, characters and gaming experiences.”
The transformation of Toys for Bob into an independent studio comes days after Microsoft closed its physical offices as part of a restructuring process announced several weeks ago, although at the time there was the possibility of shutting down the company responsible for games such as Crash Bandicoot 4 or Spyro Reignited Trilogy.
