Trump chooses Matthew Whitaker as his ambassador to NATO
Washington (EFE).- Donald Trump, President-elect of the United States, announced this Wednesday the appointment of former Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker as the next US Ambassador to NATO.
Whitaker, a 55-year-old attorney and lobbyist, served as the acting Attorney General of the United States between November 2018 and February 2019 under Trump’s first term, after Jeff Sessions resigned from the post.
“Matt will strengthen relationships with our NATO allies and stand firm in the face of threats to peace and stability,” the Republican politician said in a statement.

Trump also said the new ambassador would “put America first”, a motto Trump uses to promote a more isolationist foreign policy.
According to the President-elect, Whitaker is “a strong warrior and a loyal patriot who will ensure the advancement and defense of the interests of the United States.”
Whitaker graduated from the University of Iowa, where he played on the American football team, as the next president said.
Trump, who previously ruled the country between 2017 and 2021, was highly critical of NATO during his first term and disparaged his allies in the Atlantic alliance for not allocating enough money to collective defense.
During the last election campaign, he also suggested that he would encourage Russia to do the same to European countries that do not increase their defense spending and in addition, he also questioned sending US military aid to Ukraine. Had picked up.
