Trump confirms Doug Burgum for Interior Secretary

Washington (EFE).- Donald Trump, President-elect of the United States, formally confirmed this Friday the election of North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum as the next Secretary of the Interior, as well as the new National Chair. Energy Council.

According to Trump, the newly created council would “bring together all departments and agencies involved in permitting, generating, producing, distributing, regulating, and transporting ‘all’ forms of American energy.”

He explained in a statement that the new body would “oversee the path to ‘American energy dominance’,” reduce bureaucracy, improve private sector investment and eliminate “long-standing, but completely unnecessary, regulation.” Will focus on “innovation”.

The Republican had already put forward this nomination on Thursday night during a speech given at a gala dinner held at his private club in Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach (Florida), which will host until Saturday a new edition of Conservative Political Does. Action Conference (CPAC).

Doug Burgum ran in the Republican primary.

Burgum, a billionaire and former CEO of a technology company, ran in the primaries for the Republican Party nomination and participated in the first two debates, ultimately leaving the White House race last December.

Shortly after, Burgum, 68, and Governor of North Dakota since 2016, threw his support behind the former president in the race for the Republican nomination (2017–2021) and campaigned with him at several events.

His name was also on the final list of potential presidential contenders for the Republicans, who ultimately chose Ohio Senator J.D. Vance.

As chair of the brand new National Energy Council, Burgum will have a position on the National Security Council, as revealed by the president-elect, who stressed that US energy dominance will make the planet “a safer place.”

Trump said, “As Secretary of the Interior, Doug (Burgum) will be a key leader in ushering in a new ‘Golden Age of American prosperity’ and world peace.”

The US president-elect announced another notable nomination on Thursday: Former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., known for his conspiracy theories about vaccines, has been named as the new health secretary.
