A rumor that began circulating today indicates that the team responsible for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, a Metroidvania based on the beloved saga that released earlier this year, will be disbanding. Plans for a possible sequel would also be scrapped due to “below expectations” results.
The source of this information is the French independent journalist Gautoz, who published a video in which he claims to have spoken with several members of the team who confirmed information that the game will not have a sequel and that its development team no longer exists. These people would continue to work at Ubisoft, but would be transferred to other projects.
While we don’t have exact sales figures for the game, a leak from February last year suggested that around 300,000 copies were produced. This start would be enough for Ubisoft to consider that it is not worth continuing this line of games.
Although, in principle, this information will affect Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown and not all games in the series. The French company contributed to the series’ 35th anniversary by, among other things, releasing the roguelike The Rogue: Prince of Persia, which is still in early access, and confirming that the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is still in development . We don’t know much about this latest project at this point. The last information we had about it was a delay until 2026, accompanied by a small teaser in June last year.
