UFM starts in Barcelona to tackle the crisis in the Middle East and reform the organization

The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) will bring together representatives from the platform’s 43 member states in Barcelona this Monday. The meeting will discuss the serious situation the Middle East is going through, in addition to the reform of the organization starting in 2023.

The day will be chaired by Josep Borrell, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and Ayman Safadi, Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora. All this happened under the chairmanship of Nasser Kamel, General Secretary of UFM. Spain’s Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Alberes will serve as the host of the meeting.

On this occasion, in which Palestine also participates for the first time as a state formally recognized by Spain, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who will represent the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee, is also invited.

Yesterday, Sunday, and within the framework of this summit, the President of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, congratulated Josep Borrell, who participated in the closing day of the Euro-Mediterranean Civil Society Conference against polarization caused by the crisis in the Middle East . And which was organized by the Institute for the European Mediterranean (IEMED).
