Ukraine launches largest ever drone attack on Moscow – DW – 11/10/2024

The Defense Ministry indicated that Russia shot down 34 Ukrainian drones targeting Moscow this Sunday (11/10/2024), the largest attack against the Russian capital since the beginning of the conflict in 2022.

According to officials, the attack caused the temporary closure of three airports, injured a 52-year-old woman and burned two houses in the town of Ramenskoye.

While Ukraine’s capital Kiev is a regular target of large-scale Russian drone and missile attacks, attacks on Moscow are rare.

The Defense Ministry said Russian air defense had shot down a total of 70 Ukrainian drones in six areas, including 34 in the Moscow region. The governor of the capital region, Andrei Vorobyov, announced on Sunday that the drone strike was “large-scale”.

The Russian Defense Ministry earlier said it had shot down a total of 23 Ukrainian drones in the Bryansk, Rostov, Belgorod and Kursk regions, all areas on the border with Ukraine and where drone attacks are most frequent.

Ukraine claims its attacks, which often target energy facilities, are a response to Russian bombardment of its territory since the beginning of the Russian invasion in February 2022.
