ULE is looking for volunteers to help implement its Healthy Aging Plan

Multidisciplinary research team University of Leon (ULE) started 2024 with a presentation innovative university project looking for people I’m over 65 years oldinterested in improving their the quality of life through physical training program in the city of Leon. Funded by the Spanish Government and led by eminent researchers from the University of Leon and Institute of Biomedicine (Ibiomed)this innovative project aims not only improve muscle mass and bone densitybut also to understand regulation of ACE2 protein in older people, the most important protein associated with COVID-19. Evaluation of the project will begin in February this year, and project coordinators are currently busy recruiting adult participants. pensioners from 65 to 80 years oldwho want to take part in this annual training program.

Classes will be held in the gym located at: La Palomera area where participants will train two days a week under the direction of Physical Activity and Sports Science graduates hired at the University of Leon. These professionals tailor the intensity of the workout to each individual participating and ensure proper exercise performance as well as physical safety during the workout. The program is completely free, requires no prior experience, and will be tailored to each participant’s time availability, forming small groups where possible based on time availability.

He multidisciplinary team Those who will carry out this project include experts in psychology, nutrition and sports science, and will work under the supervision of a professor. José Antonio de Paz, doctor specializing in sports medicine and professor Department of Biomedical Sciences of the University of Leon. “Carefully planned medical and functional assessments will be carried out periodically throughout the year to ensure comprehensive health monitoring and a thorough assessment of the individual progress of the participants,” explains José Antonio de Paz, who assures that through such individual attention “we strive to ensure a safe and effective experience for every participant.”
