Vaccination against covid and flu begins in residential buildings

Oviedo (EFE). – Joint vaccination against influenza and Covid-19 began this Monday in Asturias in nursing homes. This campaign will be extended by the Ministry of Health to the rest of the target population from October 7th.

For this campaign, the Ministry of Health has five types of flu vaccines to provide each person with the one that best suits their needs, and a total of 399,000 doses have been procured for a total cost of 4.7 million.

For Covid, the Health Service will use a single vaccine in this campaign, which will be available in three forms: for adults, children aged five to 12 years, and children aged six months to five years.

Immunization against covid and influenza is intended for people aged 60 years and over; children under 5 years of age and older, people staying in centers for the disabled and nursing homes, as well as other people staying in institutions for a long time, and children over 12 years of age with risk conditions such as diabetes, morbid obesity, chronic cardiovascular and neurological diseases. , renal, respiratory or neuromuscular, cancer patients or patients with weakened immune systems, as well as with impaired cognitive functions.

Likewise, it is intended for pregnant and postpartum women up to six months after giving birth; those who live with immunosuppressed people; employees of medical and social-medical centers, as well as people working in vital government services: state security forces and bodies, the Armed Forces, firefighters and civil protection services.

The rest from October 7

The vaccination campaign will be extended to the rest of the target population starting next Monday, October 7.

The Ministry of Health recommends that children aged 6 to 59 months be vaccinated against influenza only; people aged 5 to 59 years who are at greater risk of complications from influenza, such as smokers, and, newly, staff at day care centers and early childhood education centres.

Immunization against Covid only is recommended for the population from six months to 12 years with the following risk conditions: hematopoietic stem cell transplantation; primary and acquired immunodeficiencies; receiving immunosuppressive therapy, including cancer; serious chronic cardiovascular diseases; severe chronic respiratory diseases, including severe asthma, and severe neurological or neuromuscular diseases.
