Vaccination against influenza and Covid begins on Monday for people over 60 years of age and risk groups.

The vaccination campaign against influenza and covid will begin in the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) next Monday, October 7, for the population at risk and people over 60 years of age, who can now make an appointment starting this Thursday via the Osakidetza website or by calling your health center.

Peiro, together with other representatives of the department, explained the details of this year’s campaign, which will be held under the motto “With flu and Covid, don’t take risks. Get vaccinated”.
Among the at-risk population, he mentioned those over 60 years of age; people with chronic pathologies, pregnant women, healthcare workers and nursing home users.
For the second year in a row, the vaccine includes children aged 6 months to 5 years, as the drug is included in the vaccination schedule as a protective measure against bronchiolitis, among other respiratory diseases.
In this group, starting from 20 months, they will be assigned intranasal vaccine, which avoids punctureand the rest of the population will be vaccinated intramuscularly.
For this year’s campaign, the Department of Health purchased more than 755,000 doses of flu vaccine and hopes to increase that number to more than 900,000.
Last year, 70% of chronically ill people were vaccinated; 53% of pregnant women; 64% of people over 65 years of age; 58% of people over 60 years of age and 38% of medical personnel. In children, the rate reached only 16% because this was the first year of vaccination. It is expected to reach 35% in this campaign.
