Enrique Márquez will present an appeal to review the decision that validates Maduro’s victory

Former opposition presidential candidate Enrique Márquez announced this Friday that he will present an appeal for review before the Constitutional Chamber of the Venezuelan Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) to evaluate the decision taken by the Electoral Chamber confirming the victory of President Nicolás Maduro, in the July 28 elections.

“We have decided, using our constitutional rights and always appealing to institutions, that we are going to exercise the right to present an appeal for a review of this sentence before the Constitutional Chamber,” Marquez said at a press conference.

Marquez said the sentence may not be appealable, but the TSJ’s Constitutional Chamber could review it because, he said, it is convinced it violates constitutional rights.

“First we have to have access to the full sentence, we will ask for it. Then we will work and prepare this appeal for review, because we are convinced that this sentence violates constitutional rights,” he said.

The former candidate indicated that he would carry out this action because he is not abandoning politics or institutions, despite the fact that, he said, none of the appeals filed before the Supreme Court in relation to the presidential elections had been responded to by the magistrate.

“There are many who say: and why are we going to do this? And I say, we are going to do this because we do not renounce politics or institutions, because with our actions we want to maintain peace, maintain institutionality and preserve the Constitution,” he said.
