WalletHub recently released its 2024 College & University Rankings report, which placed the University of Montevallo third on its list of the top 10 colleges and universities in Alabama.
WalletHub compared more than 800 institutions in the US on 30 key measures. The data set is grouped into seven categories: student selectivity, costs and funding, teaching resources, campus safety, campus experience, educational outcomes, and career outcomes. The data collected is relevant only to undergraduate students.
Those dimensions were evaluated using 30 relevant metrics, ranging from student-teacher ratio to graduation rate to median post-attendance salary. Each metric was scored on a 100-point scale, where a score of 100 represents the best school performance and most favorable conditions for college students during and after attendance. Each school’s weighted average was determined across all metrics to calculate its overall score, and WalletHub used the resulting scores to rank its sample.
UM received high scores among Alabama schools in the following metrics:
- Admission rate – third place
- Student to teacher ratio: third place
- Crime on campus – fifth place
The data used to create this ranking was obtained from the National Center for Education Statistics, the Economic and Community Research Council, the U.S. Department of Education, COLLEGEData, and PayScale. Some institutions were excluded from the sample due to data limitations.
US News & World Report recently ranked the University of Montevallo as one of the best universities in the South in multiple categories for the 15th consecutive year, including No. 4 in the Best Value School in the South category.
Currently, standardized test scores are not required for admission and the University has frozen tuition fees since 2018.
