What time is the Formula 1 sprint race and qualifying in Qatar and how to watch it

There will be a short race in the sprint format this Saturday F1 Qatar Grand Prix and then, also on Saturday, the main classification, which will form the grid for the main race on Sunday. See what time the Qatar Sprint Race in Losail takes place and what time qualifying time is.

What time is the F1 Qatar GP sprint race?

Saturday’s Formula 1 race in Qatar will begin with a 19-lap sprint race around the Losail circuit. There, the first points of the weekend will be at stake: 8 for the winner, 7 for the second, 6 for the third, and so on until the eighth (9th and 10th places do not count). The Qatar Grand Prix sprint race starts at 17:00 local time, 15:00 in Spain, 8:00 in Mexico or 11:00 in Argentina.

Remember that the sprint race is played on a grid consisting of the Qatar Sprint Penalty Shootout (or Sprint Classification), a short session held on Friday. Following the sprint race, the main classification of the 2024 F1 Qatar Grand Prix will take place on Saturday afternoon.

What are the classification times for the F1 Qatar Grand Prix?

This will be a classification in the traditional format: Q1 of 18 minutes with 20 riders, Q2 of 15 minutes with 15 riders and Q3 of 10 minutes with the fastest 10 from Q2 will fight for pole.

The pole position holder for the 2024 F1 Qatar Grand Prix will be determined in the main classification on Saturday rather than the sprint classification on Friday.

Who won the Formula 1 sprint races?

Since the 2021 season, there have been up to 17 sprint races, of which Max Verstappen has won 10, more than half. The remaining seven are split between two Valtteri Bottas and one between George Russell, Charles Leclerc, Sergio Perez, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.

The only Formula 1 sprint race in Qatar took place in 2023 and was won by Oscar Piastri in Losail.

The sprint races of the 2024 Formula 1 season were won by Verstappen in China, Verstappen in Miami, Verstappen in Austria, Verstappen in Austin and Norris in Brazil.
