WhatsApp will stop working on these iPhones starting this month: be careful if you have one
Like every year, WhatsApp needs to be updated with improvements and security measures that may not always be compatible with all phones, especially if they are many years old. That’s why every now and then we see a new version that makes the previous models no longer able to install the application.
This month of October the new version of WhatsApp will exclude all devices with Android 5.0 or iOS 12. Many of them cannot be updated so they will not be able to download the application once this happens, leaving us with a practically useless mobile phone as it is one of the most important applications for everyone.
WhatsApp is no longer compatible with these iPhones
It is likely that few users will continue to use one of these iPhone models, however it is possible as a secondary phone so you will have to take this into account as after a few days you will no longer have service, which is what you want. This means that if you want to save your chats, you’ll need to make a backup, which you can later restore on your compatible model.
As we already said, this will affect iOS 12, the version that will no longer be able to support WhatsApp and it limits some models to this as they cannot be upgraded to a higher version of iOS. Among them are the following:
- iPhone 5
- iPhone 5s
- iPhone 5s
- iPhone 6
- iPhone 6 plus
- iPhone SE (first generation)
The iPhone 5 may be outdated, but the iPhone 6 isn’t that far behind, and because of its price, I know parents who bought it as their kids’ first phone, so they should at least consider upgrading. If you want to use WhatsApp, since it will be one of the main applications on all mobile phones and it will not only be the only one that will say goodbye to iOS 12, but we will eventually have an iPhone for calls, use a calculator and more.
For now the rest of the devices can rest easy and there won’t be any more major changes to rule them out until next year, however if you have one of the following devices I would consider replacing it if I were you. , as it won’t take long to stop being compatible and it may take you by surprise, so it’s best to think about it now, as it doesn’t necessarily take a year to pass, and it’s entirely possible that it has. There will be another update in March or April that will fix even more.
Do you still have an iPhone with iOS 12? The truth is that today you can buy them even for 30 euros, they are very functional, so many people can use it as an additional phone, something that will now be forgotten and we will have to think about a wider range. In my case, if you don’t want to spend a lot but are looking for an iPhone for the next year or so, I would go for the iPhone X, which can be bought for less than 100 euros and is one of the best they have released. It’s no longer being updated, but it will have a few years of life.
