With this very simple trick I can do this with the screen turned off.
There are several options for using YouTube with your screen off, but installing the Brave browser is the easiest and most effective option.
There are several tricks for listening to music on YouTube with the screen off, but for me the simplest and most practical is the one I am sharing with you here. I also pay for Spotify, but often there are music collections on YouTube, podcasts I’m interested in, or a random video I want to listen to. Typically, unless you pay for YouTube Premium, the app mutes the sound when you turn off the screen or put YouTube in the background.
But there is a very simple way to listen to YouTube videos with the screen off or when another application is on the screen. And it works great. No further complications. There are other options, but I’ve been choosing this path for several years now, and it works great for me. And in general, sometimes I am surprised when there are colleagues who do not know about this option. That’s why I was asked to recommend it to you.
The only thing we need to do is install the Brave browser. I use it on Android, but there is also one for iOS. It is a popular browser available for free on the Play Store and App Store.
Unlike Chrome and other browsers, Brave allows YouTube and other services to run in the background. To activate this option we will have to go to the sections Settings -> Media -> Background Playback. That’s all. Once this option is activated, we can go directly to YouTube, turn off the screen and the video will continue playing.
As I said, there is nothing more to the operation. We go to YouTube in the browser, install the video we need and that’s it. From the notification panel we can stop it whenever we want..
A very practical use is to create playlists on YouTube and play them from Brave. By doing this, we will have a list of songs for practical purposes, but without having to pay for a music service. But the truth is that there is a huge repertoire of songs on YouTube.
Since the Brave update in 2017, I’ve been using this trick when I don’t want to disable Spotify. On iOS it works offline and even with a floating window. It’s surprising that Chrome doesn’t directly support this feature, although it’s understandable if we think Google charges to allow it as part of YouTube Premium.
In browsers like Firefox or Chrome, YouTube can also be used with the screen off, but it doesn’t work as well or as fast. With Brave, yes. With Brave, there’s no greater mystery than constantly playing and listening to a video. If you usually listen to YouTube music from your mobile phone and would like to have it constantly running in the background, I suggest you try this.
