Wizards of the Coast, the renowned publisher behind popular franchises like Dungeons & Dragons and the Magic: The Gathering card game, has recently canceled at least five unannounced games that were in development.
The information comes from Bloomberg, where they mention that the company, through a statement, referred to it, noting that the company “made some changes to our long-term portfolio to focus on games that are strategically aligned with the development of our current brands and those that show promise in expanding or engaging our audience in new ways.”
It is worth mentioning that in 2019 Wizard of the Coast announced that it was preparing seven or eight games based on the Dungeons & Dragons universeamong which is Baldur’s Gate 3, a game that is in early access format and Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance, released in 2021.
the rest of the games they would have been canceled before their announcement.
Despite the large number of canceled games, there would not have been that many layoffs, less than 15, with most of the workers moving on to other positions within the same publisher.
