Woman accuses former boxing champion Mike Tyson of rape | Boxing

NY– A woman has accused former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson of raping her sometime in the early 1990s in a lawsuit filed in Albany, New York, this month.
The woman, who is asking for $5 million, claims Tyson raped her in a limousine after she met him at an Albany nightclub and that she has suffered “physical, psychological and emotional harm” in the years since.
The woman’s affidavit does not provide a date for the attack, saying only that it happened in the 1990saround the same time beauty contestant Desiree Washington said Tyson raped her in Indianapolis. Tyson was convicted of raping Washington on February 10, 1992, and served three years in prison.
The legal action in New York was filed under the Adult Survivors Act, which gives sexual assault victims up to a year to file claims for assaults that occurred years or even decades ago.
The woman said in her affidavit that she got into Tyson’s limousine and the boxer immediately began touching her and trying to kiss her.
“I told him no several times and asked him to stop, but he continued to attack me,” the woman said. “She Then she took off my pants and violently raped me.”
The woman is trying to maintain her anonymity because, she said, the publication of her name “would certainly put me at risk of further mental harm, harassment, ridicule or personal embarrassment.”
The woman’s attorney, Darren Seilback, said in a separate filing that his office didn’t just take the woman at her word, but investigated her allegations and determined they are “highly credible.”
Seilback said Tuesday that he could not comment further on the case.
A message seeking comment from Tyson was sent to an agency that has represented him.
Born in Brooklyn, Tyson, 56, earned adulation as the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world from 1987 to 1990, but his life outside the ring has been turbulent.
Tyson’s ex-wife, actress Robin Givens, said in divorce papers that their late-1980s marriage was marked by “unprovoked bouts of violence and destruction.”
