Woman from Ibagué was murdered by her partner in the United States – Other Cities – Colombia

Sad news was received in Ibagué, Tolima, by the family of Ana Sofia Martinez Campos, who was found dead in her home in the city of Gainesville, in the State of Georgia, United States.
The 33-year-old woman, born in Ibagué, was found dead in her bed. The discovery, on the previous Wednesday afternoon, was made by a brother who immediately notified the Georgia State Police, who hours later captured Iván Reyes Jiménez. The 50-year-old man is a Cuban national and was the sentimental partner of Ana Sofía, with whom he lived in Gainesville.

The two met in 2019 in a casino in Ibagué where she worked as a cashier, but later they set up a pizzeria in the downtown area, near the Cathedral and the Municipal Mayor’s Office.
Due to the economic crisis, Iván traveled to the United States and in June of last year Ana Sofía did so with one of her brothers. All three resided in Gainesville and the woman earned her living selling typical Colombian food, like the Tolimense tamale.
The young woman would have been murdered by her sentimental partner, who hit her on the head with a dumbbell that she used to lift weights and exercise.
“We believe that he is the author of this femicide case“said his sister Yeraldine Martínez Campos.
“My brother found her dead in bed, the floor and walls were bloodstained,” he added.

He pointed out that Iván Reyes, who was detained by the Police, “He was a jealous, possessive man who mistreated her when they lived in Ibagué.”
Iván Reyes Jiménez was accused by the authorities in Georgia of the crime of intentional aggravated homicide and remains in custody.
The victim’s family asked the Colombian government for help to repatriate the body that remains in a crime laboratory in the United States.

“We want to bring the body to give it a Christian burial in Ibagué, but we need the government to help us with the transfer by plane because It has a cost of about 30 million pesosYeraldine Martinez said.
Ana Sofía was a high school graduate from the Antonio Reyes Umaña school in Ibagué. She leaves behind a 13-year-old son who is not the product of her relationship with this man from Cuba.
