China is ready to work with the new President of the United States Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping said in a meeting with his American counterpart Joe Biden in Lima this Saturday (16/11/2024).

“China is willing to work with the new US administration to maintain communication, expand cooperation and manage differences,” Xi said at the start of his last meeting with Biden before handing over power to Trump on January 20. “

“The goal of maintaining a stable, healthy and sustainable relationship between China and the United States remains the same,” he said.

China and the United States must “achieve long-term peaceful coexistence”

The Chinese leader also told Biden that Beijing will “strive to achieve a smooth transition” in relations, which are expected to be strained due to Trump’s intention to impose 60% tariffs on Chinese exports.

In another part of his statement quoted by state agency Xinhua, Xi stressed that the two countries should “continue to find the right path” to come together and “achieve long-term peaceful coexistence.”

The meeting between Biden and Xi came after the summit of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), which is made up of 21 economies that represent 60% of global gross domestic product.
