Yasmany Tomás was left out of Mexico’s roster for the 2023 Caribbean Series.
On the night of Sunday, January 29, the Cañeros de Los Mochis announced the official roster for the Gran Caracas 2023 Caribbean Series. The winner of the Most Valuable Player of the season, Cuban Yasmany Tomás, was included in the team.
The former major leaguer was expected to be one of the stars of the Los Mochis team, especially after his great campaign in the Mexican Pacific League.
However, on Monday afternoon everything took a turn. The Arco League itself reported on its website that infielder Reynaldo Rodríguez replaced Yasmany Tomás.
Rodríguez was the MVP of the last Caribbean Series with the Caimanes de Barranquilla of Colombia in the Dominican Republic.
“Rodríguez, who with the Águilas de Mexicali, in the recently concluded season batted .259 AVG with 4 home runs and 25 RBIs, takes the place of fellow infielder Yasmany Tomás, who will not attend due to personal reasons.” the note of the LMP.
Mexico will debut in the Caribbean Series against the Tigres del Licey on February 2 at noon (Venezuelan time) at the La Rinconada Stadium.
