You can now download the first preview version
The first version of Android 15 can now be downloaded and installed on compatible devices.
The rumors were confirmed: February 16 this year Google officially announced Android 15, a major new update to the mobile operating system, the final version of which should arrive sometime at the end of the year. The company took the opportunity to launch first developer preview Android 15, first step testing program which will last several months.
Starting today, owners of compatible Google Pixel devices will be able to install Android 15 on your devices to test the new Android 15 features, which, by the way, have that name “Android V” or “Android Vanilla Ice Cream”.
What’s new in Android 15
The vast majority of changes coming in Android 15 won’t be announced until Google open beta program after a few months. However, this first edition aimed at developers already gives us some hints about the changes we can expect.
In the first preview improvements dedicated to optimizing operating system securityincluding new APIs and improvements aimed at areas such as Photoperformance and stability, and tools available to developers.
One of the new features detailed by Google in the Android 15 DP1 announcement is the new performance profiling system. With this feature set, apps can use device resources more efficiently by enabling high performance modeor if you prefer to save energy by using energy saving mode.
Future releases of Android 15 will also introduce some minor changes such as the ability to force all applications to run in full screen modethereby eliminating the background of the system navigation bar located at the bottom and the status bar at the top.
It’s also been revealed that Android 15 will give you more information about your device’s battery health, in the style of what’s been seen on iOS devices for years.
Mobile phones compatible with Android 15 Developer Preview 1 and where to download
The Android 15 preview program begins today with the release of the first developer version. According to the calendar published by Google, there will be two preview versions before the beta program arrives in April. The beta program will have four different versions before the final version is released.
In terms of available devices, all models in the Pixel series, starting with the Pixel 6, are Compatible with Android 15 Developer Preview 1. The full list of devices is available below:
- Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro
- Google Pixel Fold
- Google Pixel Tablet
- Google Pixel 7a
- Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro
- Google Pixel 6a
- Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro
You can download the corresponding update for each device through the Android developer website.
