In recognition of Men’s Health Awareness Month, Johnson & Johnson is launchingLet’s talk about time. Let’s talk about the prostatein collaboration with the Spanish Group of Patients with Cancer (GEPAC) and the Association of Prostate Cancer (ANCAP). This initiative further highlights the importance of periodic screenings as a key tool for early detection of prostate cancer, especially in men over 50 years of age, which in turn has been shown to improve the likelihood of cure for this type. cancer2.
And the time of diagnosis for this disease is essential, since age plays a decisive role in its development. This tumor, the most common in men in our country, represents almost 30,000 new cases diagnosed per year, with 1 case where its incidence increases significantly after age 50. (1) Hence the importance of prostate examination starting at this age; and after 45 years – in men with a family history (2).
With this pathology, as with other cancers, symptoms usually do not appear in the initial stages, so it is important to undergo urological examinations that facilitate early detection.2,(3) In addition, it is in the early stages of the disease that prostate cancer is more localized and limited to the gland, which makes treatment easier and increases survival in more than 95% of cases over the next 10-15 years. 1
During the campaign’s launch, David Bies, director of government relations and market access for Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine, noted that “this campaign highlights the importance of time and is born out of our belief in the importance of providing patients with quality time.” with prostate cancer so they can enjoy it with their loved ones. With this disease, we know that early action can change the course of the disease and your life. That’s why we strive to run these types of campaigns that focus on the importance of early detection.”
In this sense, César Comuñas Alfaro, Vice President of ANCAP, emphasized the possibility of participating for the second year in this campaign, “which reminds us that time is not infinite and sometimes we do not think about it until a circumstance happens to us” . . This campaign reminds us of the importance of early detection of asymptomatic disease such as prostate cancer, where there is no need to wait. Prevention saves lives.”
Likewise, Marcos Martinez Cortes, manager of GEPAC, also shared his views on awareness and the fundamental role of patients in the prevention of prostate cancer, adding that it is important to “make visible this disease, which affects not only the patient, but also your partner and the environment. It is important to convey a message to the population so that they are aware of their health and go for an examination to their specialist.”
Both agreed on the importance of time for people with prostate cancer, in most cases, after receiving a diagnosis of the disease. Everyday moments become more valuable.
The event also included a round table discussion with the participation of specialists from various medical specialties involved in the treatment of prostate cancer: Dr. Sandra Fernandez Alonso, Radiation Oncology Specialist at the University Hospital on October 12; Dr. Luis Gonzalez del Valle, Head of Pharmacy Services, University Hospital of La Paz; Dr. Laura Sánchez Rosendo, from the Urology Service of the Central University Hospital of Gómez Ulla; and Ignacio Moreno Perez, oncologist at the San Carlos Clinical Hospital.

Once again, the visible face of the campaign is actor Manuel Galiana, who returns to his role as watchmaker Paquito; a character he played in the 1982 television adaptation of Gonzalo Torrente Ballester’s novel Gozo and the Shadows.
After his intervention last year, Galiana returns this time accompanied by her son in works of art to remember that “The best gift is time. Save your time.” Time is valued differently by prostate cancer patients, which is also illustrated by the immersive 3D exhibition where you can see videos based on the personal experiences of patients suffering from the disease, which will show what your perception of time is like after diagnosis, and your way to carry it out on a personal level and in your immediate circle.
