Health authorities India reported an increase in morbidity and mortality from malaria able Meghalaya in 2023. Southern Garo Hills contributed to most cases in the state.

Eight people died from malaria in 2023, an increase from the three people who died from the disease in 2021.

The rainy season begins in June, and with it the season of highest malaria transmission.

Various awareness campaigns are being conducted in schools and villages to promote the adoption of anti-malaria strategies.

It is followed by Chhattisgarh (31,713), Jharkhand (31,140), West Bengal (26,493), Tripura (22,412), Maharashtra (16,164) and Uttar Pradesh (13,585). The annual parasite index (API), which fell to 0.52 in 2022, increased to 0.93.
