Health authorities India reported an increase in morbidity and mortality from malaria able Meghalaya in 2023. Southern Garo Hills contributed to most cases in the state.

Eight people died from malaria in 2023, an increase from the three people who died from the disease in 2021.

The rainy season begins in June, and with it the season of highest malaria transmission.

Various awareness campaigns are being conducted in schools and villages to promote the adoption of anti-malaria strategies.

Meghalaya is a state of the Republic of India. The capital is Shillong. It is located in the east of the country and borders: Assam to the north and east, and Bangladesh to the south and west. According to the 2011 census, the city’s population was almost 3 million inhabitants.

2023. Odisha was the state that reported the highest number of cases (41,971 and 4 deaths). It is followed by Chhattisgarh (31,713), Jharkhand (31,140), West Bengal (26,493), Tripura (22,412), Maharashtra (16,164) and Uttar Pradesh (13,585). The annual parasite index (API), which fell to 0.52 in 2022, increased to 0.93.

2017: 1,090,724 cases of malaria and 331 deaths were reported. 12% of the population lived in areas with high transmission rates.
year 2014: The districts with the highest number of malaria cases in the country from January to June 2014 were: Odisha, Chhattisgarh 13% of the number of malaria cases in the country (38781 cases); Jharkhand (26,588 cases), Madhya Pradesh (18,793 cases) and Tripura (13,375 cases). An increase in the number of cases was reported in Mangalore (low risk city): 5000 cases till July 2014.
2013: The distribution of the number of malaria cases in the country in the early months of 2013 was as follows: 89,466 cases in Orissa; Chhattisgarh – 31,940 cases; Jharkhand 26,489 cases; Maharashtra – 17,060 cases; lower numbers were in Gujarat, Assam, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh.
