Although it may seem otherwise, the answer is NO. Formula 1 has already held 69 races in Monaco and “only” in 31 races the driver who started first won (that is, the Pole won 44.93% of the time). In fact, in 22 of the 69 races, the Pole later abandoned the race (31.88%).
But in recent history this has changed: of the last 19 Monaco Grand Prix races, 16 have started from the front row of the grid and 13 have started from pole position.
In turn, out of 69 Formula 1 races in Monaco, the driver who started in the top 3 won in 59 cases (all but ten), that is, 85.51%.
Outside the top five, that is, those who started the Monaco Grand Prix sixth or worse, only three drivers won: this is a historic Olivier Panis starting from the 14th of 1996, Jochen Rindt
ranked eighth in the 1970 edition and Maurice Trintignant from ninth place in 1955).Charles Leclerc won his third pole position in Monaco and the 24th of his Formula 1 career. This breaks Max Verstappen’s streak of eight consecutive pole positions, who equaled Ayrton Senna’s record and who actually held every pole position for the 2024 season until this Saturday.
Fernando Alonso will start 16th in the Monaco race after crashing out in the first quarter of qualifying when he encountered traffic while attempting a fast lap. He will share the eighth row of the grid with Kevin Magnussen, who will start 15th.
Carlos Sainz will start third in the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix, on the second row of the grid, which he will share with Norris (fourth). Leading the way, Sainz will have Piastri second and teammate Leclerc first.
Checo Perez will start 18th in Sunday’s Formula 1 Grand Prix race in Monaco after crashing out in the first round of qualifying in Q1. He will share the penultimate row of the grid with Logan Sargeant, who will start 17th.
