NThis is the first time Damon Hill, the 1996 world champion, has praised Carlos Sainz’s performance at Ferrari over Charles Leclerc. A couple of seasons ago he insisted that “He seems more of a leader than Charles at Ferrari,” and highlights the No. 55’s tactical intelligence.
Now, in the middle of a season in which the Madrid native completes his five years at Maranello, Damon again expressed some suspicions about his departure:
and no more and no less than in the official “podcast” of the Formula 1 World Championship, called “Formula 1 Nation”.“It’s a mystery to me why Carlos seems like this able to find a way out of difficult situations and do more with the tools at his disposal than Charles, “Who’s the one who’s going to stay,” says the Briton, who is now also a TV commentator.
“I don’t understand what’s going on at Ferrari. And Leclerc also doesn’t get the support he needs from the team in terms of strategy. It seems a bit confusing and I don’t understand why,” he says, approaching Carlos and talking about how he deals with situations in the race.
“Instead, Carlos seems to take control of the situation. He asserts himself and says, “This is how I do it.” “It might give the strategists more confidence, which they don’t have with Charles,” he adds.
Either way, Hill believes Ferrari have a chance this weekend at the Hungaroring alongside McLaren and Mercedes, with the champions reaching their ceiling: “They have moved forward and Red Bull can’t do that.” – said the Britons. “They may have peaked, so in the second half of the season I think we will see a lot of victories, whether it’s Mercedes, McLaren or even Ferrari.”
