The U17 Women’s team has been competitive at this World Championship. They beat Australia in the quarterfinals and held off Canada in the semifinals, the two main favorites heading into the tournament. They had a 10-point lead at the end of the first quarter, which they maintained throughout the second quarter.

With Sarah Okeke (Canada) having more problems than on other days around the basket, Spain relied on the talent of Adriana Diaz, the work of Ines Garcia or the quality of Mireya Sanz. Canada responded and took the lead in the first minute of the final quarter (57-56). The confidence of the Americans led to a partial score of 0-9 with a worrying 60-67.

Despite this, Spain responded and made it 73-75 with just over a minute left. A 14-second violation and two missed three-pointers after a successful ball movement condemned Spain at the end of the game, where they lost the final. Mireya Sanz finished with 17 points, Adriana Diaz with 16 and Ines Garcia with 11 points.
