Longuevida San Pablo Burgos took advantage of home court to secure a 2-0 lead in the LEB Oro playoffs against UEMC Real Valladolid Baloncesto. The team led by Jota Cuspinera had a great second half against a Valladolid team that kept the tie until midway through the second quarter. The ambition with which Burgos’ team returned to the field after the break was the key to achieving the final victory. There will be a third draw next Friday.
The match at the Coliseum began with absolute equality. Lotanna Nwogbo led UEMC Real Valladolid Baloncesto (4-7), while Micah Speight did the same with Longuevida San Pablo Burgos (12-11). Maja Kovacevic’s triples increased the small lead of the Valladolid team (16-19), which remained ahead at the end of the first quarter (18-21).
Dusan Ristic’s work on both ends of the court improved Cuspinera’s team, which took advantage of Alex Barrera’s three to extend the lead to four points (28-24). Devin Schmidt was at the free throw line, converting his options and again adjusting the game (30-29). Speight’s persistence fueled the local team, which started the group play 8-0 with Gonzalo Corbalan and Millan Jimenez to take a maximum eight-point lead at halftime (41-33).
Longuevida San Pablo Burgos returned to the track with big ambitions. First, Luke Fischer and Siim-Sander Vene combined to increase the distance (53-38), and then Corbalan and Jimenez did the same, increasing the lead to 21 points (60-39). The people of Burgos wanted more and did not stop, having fun and pleasing the stands of the Coliseum until they established a new maximum lead of 26 points (67-41). UEMK Real Valladolid Baloncesto reduced part of its income following the results of the third period (68-47).
Burgos’ team captain arbitrarily dominated the match in the final quarter and shone in attack. Barrera kept the distance under control (73-51) and with a personal 7-0 run extended the lead to 30 points (83-53). Edin Atich and Roko Rogic joined Burgos’ party and set a new maximum score of 31 points (88-57). At best, Longueida San Pablo Burgos made it 2-0 in the quarterfinal match (91-61).
