The Jeanne d’Arc Naval Group arrives in Buenos Aires on its training trip for French Naval officers
The French Naval Academy, as part of its mission to train cadets of the Naval Group “Jeanne d’Arc”composed of amphibious helicopter carriers Tonnerre and the frigate’s guepratteStops in Buenos Aires before continuing the journey to Ushuaia.
The “Jeanne d’Arc” operational group is composed of the amphibious helicopter carrier Tonnerre (which carries helicopters, armored vehicles and 150 Army troops) and the La Fayette (FLF) Guépratte type frigate. Every year, it conducts a training expedition for young naval officers who complete their training onboard the ship.
For its 2024 edition, and for almost five months, from February 19 to July 15, the group travels on an operational mission in the Atlantic and Pacific regions, with a special focus on South America. It will be dedicated to training phases (for 160 cadets of the French Naval Academy), operations (such as the fight against drug trafficking in the Caribbean or ensuring maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea) and cooperation with our main strategic partners. .
The objective is also to demonstrate that the French Navy, the world’s fourth navy and Europe’s first navy, can be deployed in all maritime zones of the world and fulfill its responsibilities as a permanent member of the UN Security Council. ,
The group’s stop in Buenos Aires highlights that Argentina is a key partner of France in Latin America. In a context in which Argentina and France have common interests and challenges on the international stage, bilateral military cooperation is of great importance. After the stopover in Buenos Aires, high level naval interactions between the two navies will be implemented.
