A family of farmers found carbon fiber remains on their land. It turned out to be part of a spaceship

  • The trunk of SpaceX’s Crew Dragon spacecraft has been removed before re-entry into the atmosphere

  • The largest piece was found in Saskatchewan, Canada, weighing 45 kg.

Barry Sawchuk and his four children were harvesting their crops when they were hit by some crop weird carbon fiber partThe weight of the largest of which was 45 kg.

It took a few days for a farming family from Saskatchewan, Canada, to get a response, but they weren’t wrong about its origins. From the beginning they thought it was something that had fallen from space.

“It could be part of a satellite or something that has re-entered the atmosphere because it’s all burned up; you can see where it’s burned up,” he told CTV News. “It’s a carbon fiber composite and has a honeycomb aluminum core and more carbon composite on the back.”

SpaceX Crew Dragon’s trunk

Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics is convinced that the remains are from the trunk of the Crew Dragon spacecraft Returned from space on 26 February,

is a section of the trunk spacex spacecraft Designed for transportation of cargo and equipment that does not require a pressurized environment, such as the cabin in which astronauts travel.

This unpressurized section of the Dragon ship is not designed to withstand atmospheric reentry, so it cannot be recovered. It separates from the rest of the ship and burns up in the atmosphere, but does not completely disintegrate, as can be seen in the photographs.

According to McDowell’s calculations, the trunk found in Saskatchewan belonged to the Crew Dragon ship Axiom-3 Mission, in which ESA astronaut Markus Wandt traveled for the first time in space, along with Walter Viladei of the Italian Air Force and Alper Gezervasi, the first Turk in space. The ship was commanded by Michael López-Alegría, a former NASA astronaut and vice president of Axiom.

This is not the first or last time this is happening

A very notorious case was in 2022, in which some sheepherders in the Australian interior found parts of the trunk of a Dragon ship that blew up between 2020 and 2021.

Just today the trunk of a Cargo Dragon, which was for the CRS-30 mission to the International Space Station, has re-entered. His remains fell in the Saudi Arabian desert, west of Riyadh. according to mcdowell,
