Sony working on new portable game consolewhich is currently in early development, with the idea of competing in a market segment in which Nintendo currently has a significant presence.
PS Portable and PS Vita
are the names under which Sony launched its handheld gaming consoles in 2004 and 2011 (first in Japan), respectively, although both have been out of service for over a decade.Since then, the tech firm has opted for its desktop hardware, the PlayStation 4 (2013) and PlayStation 5 (2020), and its variants. However, during this time, Nintendo managed to carve out a niche not only in desktop, but also in portable consoles thanks to its commitment hybrid Nintendo Switch.
To try to contain Nintendo’s presence in the handheld console market, Sony is working on a new team, sources familiar with its development told Bloomberg.
This console is still At an early stage of development, already years after launch, and Sony may still decide not to bring it to market permanently, according to sources.
The PlayStation catalog currently includes the PS Portal, a device linked to the PS5 that allows you to remotely continue playing a game running on your home console.
However, since this offering was not a true cloud gaming tool, Sony recently announced it was testing game streaming for PS5. without the need to connect this console.
Additionally, new names have entered the handheld console market thanks to streaming services, such as Lenovo Legion Go, Asus ROG Ally and Steam Deck, to name a few.
