Word is one of those programs that almost everyone knows. It first appeared in 1983 to compete with a consolidated alternative called WordPerfect, which it later supplanted. Much time has passed and, of course, it word processor It has undergone some noticeable changes, but some of the changes requested by users have been slow to arrive.
Microsoft has updated the way you insert text by default in Word. Until now, the program has maintained the original format, which meant extra work for those who wanted to preserve the text format they were working with. That’s starting to change for all users. Say hello to the Match Default Format command.
Now, whenever we paste text from a web page or any other program (not from another Word document), the word processor will use the Match Formatting option by default. Features like bold, italic, and underline will be preserved, but the font, size, color, etc. will be adapted to the target format of our document.
This change has been noted by some internet users. As our colleagues at Genbeta report, the good news is that this is not the only way.
Other paste options are still available. As we can see in the screenshot, when we click on the Paste menu, we find Keep Source Format, which keeps all the format elements, Match Format, which we just mentioned, and Keep Text Only, which removes bullets, images, etc.
In addition, we have the option to customize the previous default pasting method in Windows. To do this, we will have to enter Parameters > Advanced. In Insert from other programs, select “Keep source format”. It should be noted that this last option is not available in the Mac versions of Word. A pending task for Microsoft.
