Until “further notice”, the airline Air France has decided to suspend all flights over the Red Sea region. An unexpected movement that comes after the warning voice of one of its pilots, who saw a strange object while flying in the sky of Sudan last Sunday.
“A luminous object at high altitude.” Earlier speculations had suggested a missile, but this has not been confirmed by the airline. In response to these theories, Air France itself published a message explaining what happened.
The decision to suspend all flights over the Red Sea comes as a result of flight AF934 which connects Paris to Antananarivo (Madagascar), where the pilot reported the observation of “a luminous object at high altitude” over the Sudanese territory.
Change in route as a precaution. As a result of this notice, the French company decided that the aircraft would return to Paris and later decided to reroute some of its flights, explaining that “the safety of its customers and crew is its absolute imperative.”
Sudan civil war. Air France clarifies that “We constantly monitor the evolution of the geopolitical situation in the areas served and overflown by its aircraft in order to guarantee the highest level of flight safety.” With this description they draw attention to Sudan, a country where, as Europa Press describes, there has been a civil war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for a year and a half.
According to the BFMTV network, the company will not resume flights over Sudan until the situation stabilizes.
General caution in the area.
According to FlightRadar24, while the origin of this unidentified luminous object remains clear, flights are being diverted over Oman and Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) continues to recommend that in addition to the various conflicts in the region, airlines analyze the situation over the Red Sea skies until the incident becomes clear.
