Albarez questioned Maduro’s victory and asked to verify the results with electoral records

The first government reaction to the election results in Venezuela came from Foreign Minister José Manuel Alberes, who questioned Maduro’s victory on social networks, calling for “fully verified results.”

“The democratic will of the Venezuelan people must be respected with the presentation of the minutes of all polling stations to guarantee fully verifiable results. We ask that the peace and civility with which the election day passed be maintained,” the minister published on social media, according to Network X.

“What we want is total transparency in the process. And what we want and what we need is to publish the minute results table by table, so that those results can be verified,” the head of Spanish diplomacy said in an interview for Cadena Ser, in which he indicated that the Spanish government would rule on the outcome of the election when these conditions were met.

Alberes said it was “crucial” that the Venezuelan election authority publish “table-by-table data” so that organizations like the United Nations or the Carter Center could “authenticate and verify that data” as they observe the work on election day.

“The information that has been made known is global data, and so we hope that everyone will have access in a transparent way and feel comfortable with the results that are being given, and for that I believe that transparency is the best thing at all times,” he continued his explanation.

In the meantime, he shared his wish that “more complete, more detailed, more verified information” be presented throughout the day “and with the same serenity, calm and democratic spirit” with which Venezuelans came to vote yesterday “in total freedom.”
