All the news from the Dead by Daylight anniversary stream

The next chapter of Dead by Daylight will take place in Dungeons & Dragons, and its new killer will be Vecna.

The possibility of Wizards of the Coast’s role-playing game forming the basis of the new chapter was hinted at last week, but it was this afternoon, during a stream dedicated to the game’s anniversary, that Behavior Interactive revealed the first details.

In addition to the new chapter, the stream also announced a new 2v8 mode, as well as spin-off news and a preview of this year’s chapter set in…Castlevania.

Below we detail all the news presented in the Dead by Daylight eighth anniversary stream.

Chapters of Dungeons & Dragons and Castlevania

Dungeons & Dragons will form the basis of the next chapter of Dead by Daylight, which is already available in a public test build and will be finally published on June 3rd on all platforms.

As usual, this new chapter will include a new Killer, a new Survivor, and a new map.

While it may seem a little strange and a far cry from the horror franchises that Dead by Daylight is known for, Dungeons & Dragons has an undeniable appeal from a dark fantasy perspective, and will also introduce magic for the first time.

The new Assassin for this chapter is Vecna, a powerful lich and one of the most important antagonists in the world of Dungeons and Dragons (though many of you may be familiar with him from his appearance in Stranger Things). The villain will be voiced by renowned actor Matt Mercer (critical role, Ganondorf in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Vincent in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth).

Players will be able to use four spells with Vecna. Flight allows you to quickly move around the map, Mage’s Hand manipulates oars and lifts them into the air, Flight of the Damned is a necromancer’s projectile, and finally Dispel Sphere detects and disables magical effects.

Another feature of Dungeons and Dragons is that there will be treasure chests scattered throughout Vecna’s maps. When they are opened, a d20 die roll will be made which will determine their contents, ranging from normal items to magical items to counter Vecna’s spells. If you make a critical success roll (20), you will receive items enchanted by Vecna, which give you the ability to teleport or turn invisible, although these items also deal damage to the player. On the other hand, if you make a critical failure (1), the result will be unpleasant. Maybe an imitation chest?

The new Survivor is a doppelgänger, bard, and an original creation of Behavior. Players can choose between an elf named Aestri Yazar or a human named Baermar Uraz. Additionally, the new Forgotten Ruins map apparently includes a dungeon, as well as a lot of Dungeons and Dragons references as part of a larger underground component.

In the final part of the broadcast, Behavior also showed a small preview of another chapter that will be released later this year, based on Konami’s Castlevania saga. In any case, little has been seen, but more details are expected on August 6th. We’re guessing that Dracula will be the Killer and one of the Belmonts will be the new Survivor, but that’s a mystery at this point. Regardless, vampires will be an interesting addition to the game.

New 2v8 mode.

Later this summer, Dead by Daylight will be adding a new 2v8 mode. Unlike 1v4 games with one Killer and four Survivors, this mode will feature two Killers working together to take down eight Survivors.

As expected, it changes up the way the game is played a bit, with its creators considering it more of a party game than an ultra-competitive mode. There will also be no hooks, and fallen Survivors will be sent to the cage instead.

This mode also removes perks and instead forces players to choose between specific classes designed for team play. Assassins will also have team abilities, encouraging them to work together, although only five will be available: Trapper, Ghost, Hillbilly, Huntress and Nurse. As for the cards, it is known that they will also be based on these Assassins.

A new mode will be temporarily added at the beginning. Additionally, Behavior has confirmed that cross-progression will be added later this summer, allowing players to continue playing and accrue progress regardless of what platform they play on.

Dead by Daylight spin-offs

Behavior has finally revealed more information about the three spin-offs, the first of which is now available for free.

To begin with, the first gameplay trailer for “Casting Frank Stone” was shown. This is a narrative horror game developed by Supermassive Games (Until Dawn, The Quarry), with puzzles, fast-paced events and the ability to shape the plot as you choose. Set in 1980, it follows a group of friends filming a movie who accidentally uncover the secrets of a notorious serial killer.

Casting Frank Stone still doesn’t have a release date, but those responsible still plan to publish it this year on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The game, they say, will last from five to seven hours, depending on the choices we make in it.

In second place we have Project T, a new PvE game developed by Midwinter Entertainment. Here, players take on the role of intruders who have infiltrated the realm of the Entity. The view will be from a third person, and we will be able to use weapons, talismans and even trucks against enemies.

Its development is still very green, but the Project T Insider program will soon be launched to collect fan feedback and offer closed tests on PC.

Finally, today Behavior publishes What The Fog, a new roguelike for two. It is available for free on PC for a limited time for users who have a Behavior account. Later its price will increase to $4.99.

Much like Jumanji, survivors Claudette and Duigt are transported into a cursed board game where they must face waves of monsters, all in a 3D setting and chibi graphic style. If the player dies, they go into support mode, casting spells until their partner revives.
