Almeida received Feijóo in the VIP area of ​​Colon to watch the European Cup, something he did not inform the opposition advisers about.

This Sunday evening, the Colón screen became a photo shoot for the PP councillors at Madrid City Hall, where they celebrated Spain’s victory in the European Cup, joined by the leader of the opposition in Congress, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, as the representative of his party in the same institution, Miguel Tellado.

The City Council announced the installation of a second screen for the championship final, which would follow the match in the Plaza de Colón, in addition to the one already installed for the Madrid-Rio semi-final. In reality, the projection was located at the western end of the square, leaving the roadway of Paseo de la Castellana and Calle Genova for fans to gather.

In the front area, a VIP area was set up, where Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida was present and where several councillors from the government team met. But what caught the eye above all was the presence at this event, organised by the Madrid City Council, of the head of the opposition in Congress and President of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo.

“There was an area reserved for the authorities, where those who identified themselves could gain access,” they explain from the council’s sports area, answering this media outlet’s question about the reasons for Feij’s being given a place at the municipal event. “The city council did not send invitations to council members or other authorities,” the same sources add.

The leader of the national People’s Party shared some of his photos in Colón on social media, including several selfies with the public. His party used the images to tweet about the “Columbus photo.”

Feijóo thus got the photo of celebrating on the streets of Madrid surrounded by the public, while the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, attended the match live as an institutional representative in the Berlin stadium where the final was held.

Sources from Mas Madrid and PSOE confirmed to the newspaper that their advisers were not invited to the event and that they were unaware that they could go to the VIP area set up in Colon to watch the match.

There, PP council members such as Vice Mayor Inmaculada Sanz, Plenary President Borja Fanjul and Sports Councillor Sonia Seah, whose district organised the event, celebrated the goals of Nico Williams and Oyarzabal.

Also present was the cultural adviser Marta Rivera de la Cruz, who a few hours earlier had asked in X about the presence of ministers at Alcaraz’s match in the Wimbledon final. Through the same social network, the PSOE responded to the delegate, specifying that the Minister of the Interior and the President of the Supreme Sports Council were present at the event.

The Madrid City Council has organised the broadcast of the final on two giant screens, one in Colón and one in Madrid-Río, installed with municipal funding, as have numerous city councils across Spain. It has also collaborated with the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) on a celebratory party this Monday, which will take place on a stage in front of the Cibeles City Hall.

The presence of the authorities at the event has not yet been confirmed, although opposition groups such as Mas Madrid hope that the RFEF will invite them, as is usually the case in other similar events, to the municipal political groups that have representation in the city council.
