Amazon to reach 7.1 billion in Spain in 2023, up 10.9%

Amazon has recorded total gross revenue from its operations in Spain of 7.1 billion euros in 2023, representing Increase by 10.9% compared with 6.4 billion euros a year earlier, the giant said e-commerce company that achieved its 2025 job creation goal two years ahead of schedule, with 25,000 full-time employees, EP said.

In particular, last year the “market” contributed more than 1,160 million euros to the state treasury, which is 24.6% more than in 2022, when it brought in 931 million euros.

Thus, more than 370 million euros were paid in direct taxes, which include taxes on wages and social security, as well as corporate taxes and taxes paid on the acquisition, construction of land, digital services and import duties.

In addition, last year the multinational collected 790 million euros more in indirect taxes from its activities in Spain, including VAT and taxes paid by its employees, withheld by the company.

The multinational, which does not report profits in Spain, said operating results remained “relatively weak” due to pricing pressure in a very competitive market, intensive capital investments and rising operating costs.

The company praised itself for the contribution it has made over the years to the Spanish economy, “which continues to grow.” “Our commitment is firm and we will continue to invest, innovate, create jobs and support the communities we serve across the country,” he added.

3400 in e-commerce in Spain

On the other hand, the e-commerce giant’s investments in Spain reached 3.4 billion euros in 2023, down 8.1% from 2022, reinvesting more than half of the income generated.

The company also clarifies that since its arrival in Spain in 2010, it has invested more than 17.5 billion euros.

According to independent economic consultancy Keystone Strategy, Amazon’s investments since its launch in Spain have contributed more than €13 billion to Spain’s gross domestic product (GDP).

Thus, in 2023, the transnational corporation continued to commission new logistics centers in Spain, in the provinces of Zaragoza and Girona, which allows it to have about 40 facilities of different sizes scattered throughout the territory.

The company, which recently announced the opening of a new centre in Siero (Asturias) and two delivery stations, one in Granada and one in A Coruña, by the end of this year, remembers that its impact “reaches large and small populations, as well as regions with fewer opportunities, generating a driving effect in the development of economic and social activity in these areas.

25,000 employees

With more than 25,000 employees at the end of 2023, the company has fulfilled its commitment to create jobs by 2025 two years ahead of schedule.

“This figure makes us the company with the highest level of job creation in the last five years in Spain, with more than 20,000 people hired since 2018,” Amazon emphasized.

In addition, Amazon Web Services (AWS), a cloud services provider, announced last May its plans to invest €15.7 billion in Spain over the next ten years through the expansion of its AWS Europe (Spain) region, which will support more than 17,500 full-time jobs in local businesses annually, including direct, indirect and involuntary jobs.
