Amazon Web Services buys 148 hectares of Empresarium from Forestalia for further expansion

It’s a major real estate operation tied to AWS’ new developments in the community, which promises to create 6,800 direct, indirect and induced jobs by adding capacity to three data centers that have been operating for just over a year. half in Huesca, Villanueva de Gallego and El Burgo de Ebro.

“Forestalia will always be there to support the renewable energy operations that are important for Aragon as it happens,” sources at the company led by Zaragoza businessman Fernando Samper explained to this newspaper.

With this major land sale, Forestalia once again proves itself to be a transcendent player in the many major investments that take place in the community, either directly or as collateral. In this sense, it is worth remembering that the company also plays an important role in the battery plant project that Stellantis wants to build in Figueruelas. It does this with the help of the Chinese firm CGE, with which an agreement was signed last Friday, owned by the Asian giant CATL, the world leader in battery production and the aforementioned automotive group’s partner in the giant plant in Zaragoza.

The sites currently housing three AWS data centers will be expanded by 354 hectares. This means multiplying by almost nine the 46 he currently occupies.

The largest expansion will take place in the industrial zone of La Cartuja, where new buildings will be built on 147.8 hectares of land purchased from Forestalia. For technical purposes, this new location will be included in the El Burgo data center (availability zone in company terminology).

The Huesca data enclave will in turn be expanded by 62 hectares in the Valca area, 700 meters from the company’s current warehouse in the Plus industrial zone. Of this new area, 23.5 hectares were acquired from the Jorge Group, a company with which the owner of Forestalia has close ties, being in the hands of his four brothers. Finally, the Villanueva complex will add 85 hectares, and the El Burgo complex will add another 44.
